2020-07-30 The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), FTI Consulting and Google announced the launch of the APAC GNI Subscriptions Lab at the WAN-IFRA Asian Media Leaders eSummit. The Lab is an intensive four-month programme to help eight different news publishers from the Asia-Pacific region strengthen digital subscriptions capabilities and grow reader revenue. 2020-07-28 Due to continued uncertainties and travel constraints around the COVID-19 pandemic, WAN-IFRA is calling off the World News Media Congress, which was initially planned for Zaragoza, Spain, in September 2020. The haste of the judicial authorities in a court case against Bulgarian media owner and businessman Ivo Prokopiev gives rise to fears of a new instance of political intimidation of the independent Bulgarian press. It sheds light, once again, on the steady erosion of independence and pluralism of Bulgaria's media over the past fifteen years, and a disturbing lack of scrutiny on media issues from EU's authorities. 2020-06-18 WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers, is launching round two of Table Stakes Europe in partnership with the Google News Initiative. The one-year transformation and coaching programme for regional and local news publishers will welcome twenty-four participating news enterprises, growing from fourteen in the previous edition.
